The Power of the Rising Development Generation Africa
Great Leaders are made!!! so Is Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu
|
Great leaders are not only cynosures of all eyes; they are veritable source of joy and gladness and also happiness to the people around them.
This is the case of this man of the people, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, MON. The news was everywhere. In fact, it spread like a wild fire in a harmattan haze. The people jubilated. They danced and thumbed their chest in ecstasy.
In Abuja, the Nigerian Federal Capital City and the Seat of Power and also the Match play ground, the news and event outcome was greatly encouraging and acknowledged and every Nigerian here was so happy, but the unknown enemies of Dr. Kalu and Nigeria.
In Umuahia- the Abia State Capital city, Aba the Enyimba base and other cities in Nigeria the joy was uncontrollable, the excitement electrifying and the people where in their apex of happiness. It was chatting and dancing especially in Lagos.
What was the news, we are taking about? The news was Victory. Victory for excellence, victory with pride and celebration of victory for our own darling sports loving Governor Orji Uzor Kalu (MON) and his own Enyimba International Football club of Nigeria based in Aba Abia State Nigeria.
Governor Orji Uzor Kalu is not new to winning awards and honours. He is not new in making a difference and breaking jinx in leadership. Governor Kalu under his administration as the Abia State Governor determined and focused to making a difference in the African and Nigerian Sports. He personally fortified, supported, sponsored and blended the Enyimba Football club of Aba to became the first and only Nigerian club side to have captured the Confederation of Africa Footballs Cup(CAF) cup of champions, and therefore making Nigeria proud to belong and benefit in championship in the African football curriculum. he broke the Nigerian football emancipation jinx and built and supported Nigerian and especially Abia State Sports to the extent that sports became a hot context in the Abia State curriculum. Dr. Kalu, the leader with a difference after breaking the jinx of soccer in Nigeria went ahead to conquer Africa and making Nigeria to become dominant in the African football teams by picking the CAF's Champions cup the 2nd time again at Abuja, Nigeria after defeating their Tunisian counterparts.
This our sports loving and the only action Governor in Nigeria, who is an intending but aspiring President of Nigeria come 2007 became the first and only champion that has the sole and Automatic ticket to the Nigeria Federal Seat of Power come May, 2007.
The people celebrated and the Majority of Nigerian because of the achievements of this man is in unison in their unequivocal support for the government, leadership and aspiration/ambitions of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu and they demonstrated this much by their massive turn-out and joy at the achievements of this our man and his own Enyimba Boys. They confessed that the Governor has performed and therefore should be given a chance and as well supported wholly, because he is a true patriot and Achiever who has made Nigeria indeed proud and fame in his time and more because he did all these with merge resources compounded with determination.
One then would wonder, what would happen should Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu become President of Nigeria come 2007. I guess and believe, this sports loving and the Peoples action Governor would definitely capture the 2010 world cup which has been a wanted and awaited miracle least thought by the International powers that Africans are due to win or capture.
He is a master jinx breaker and as well a master strategist. He represent a great part of the AFRICA mans future... Let’s give him a chance!!!

The nigeria National Political Reform Conference: The right Direction
|
At least few issues are bound to task the attention of members of the National Political Conference as they begin a new session this week. From the controversial Immunity clause through the structure of government to the thorny issue of resource control among others, the stage seems set for what observers might describe as the fight of the century.
Of course, the mere jaw-jaw cannot be the so-called fight of the century. What may rather turn out to be that fight of the century is when the masses do not see the dividends of that CONFAB at last.
That informs the rationale behind the call for the CONFAB members to painstakingly consider the issues at stake. Although there are concerns in some quarters on the propriety of some members to re-build the damaged national psyche, once under the supervision of some of them, yet, there are counter position, and therefore the need for members to take a deeper look at issues. In deed, what should bother their minds are why is there resentment about the polity.
How did we go this far? What are the positions that would gain genuine ovation instead of arraigned charade of rented supporters of such a stance.
Again, often times, people found excuses in elevation of precedent as a yardstick in taking decision without a recourse to whether such decisions were done in bad taste. This is the time to change it. For instance, Kano State has more Local governments than Lagos State, even when Lagos has more population than Kano, just as the North-West zone has more States than the South East zone. There is also the concern that the minorities' rights are subsumed in the rights of the majority and so on. But if these and other issues are left to lie low, then the Confab members would have succeeded in canceling the common adage that no matter how small a family or its head is, it cannot transfer guests to entertain to a bigger compound. The CONFAB would have succeeded in tightening the already bottled-up resentment. These are only a tip of the ice-berg.
Let everyone that has a stake in making this outing a success, make sure it is so. Let no one see oneself as a repository of knowledge. Let every issue be weighed on an impartial scale of justice and not in terms of who shouts the loudest. Because, just as a hungry man's disposition to issues, some sections and issues may have been weakened, and may not muster enough strength to defend themselves.
And let everyone that would be entrusted with the responsibility of implementing the outcomes of the CONFAB know that posterity, like a time book, has started taking records, which will build up to apportion places where each of them will belong.

May Day Celebration in Nigeria
|
This year's May day with its theme "REVITALISING DEMOCRACY AND SAFEGUARDING THE FUTURE", symbolizes the collective struggles of the hero’s past, who went through severe pains in their bid to enthrone an egalitarian Society that recognizes, respects and rewards the immense contribution of the proletariat.
Beginning from the dark ages of employer and employee relationship, which subjected the worker to toil and sweat for fourteen hours every day to the time this slavish working hour was reduced to the present eight hours per day, the labour movement , has proved a veritable and reliable ally in the defence and propagation of the interest of the down trodden masses.
For example in 1945, during the famous coal miners strike in Enugu, the world was made to see the oppressive and obnoxious working condition Nigerians were subjected to by their white colonial masters.
In addition to exposing the ills in the coal mine and the unprovoked Police brutality, the workers under the veteran activist and Father of Nigeria Labour Unionism, Pa Michael Immodu, also used their Action to Support the Nationalistic Movement.
It is rather ironical, that the Labour Movement which played a major role in the attainment of self-rule from imperial Britian has had to lick its wounds in a country that it helped to nurture.
Under many years of Military Dictatorship in the Country, the Organized Labour movement was on the receiving end, undergoing series of re-organization, restructuring and reformation all geared towards whittling down the influence of the union.
Another curious twist in the labour -government relationship, is that in 1978, the Trade Union Degree stipulated one single labour Centre which must exclude Senior Civil Servants. But twenty-eight years after, the labour movement, is in for another struggle with government.
According to the new trade union Amendment Act 2005, Government has seemingly either by act of omission or commission placed legal obstacles to having a virile, robust and militant labour movement.
The question now is, has labour been silenced? Who will speak for the masses of this country? One would have expected that the Present Government which is a by-product of labour and human Rights agitation, which forced the military to abandon power, should have promoted a cordial under-standing with both the human rights groups and organized labour.
While, encouraging government to be more labour friendly, it is equally incumbent on Labour leaders to fight for the welfare of all Nigerian workers.
A situation whereby workers at various levels are paid different minimum wage, and their benefits monetized, is to say the least, discriminatory and unfair. As Nigerian worker celebrate one particularly wants to commend each and ever one of the workers for their level of maturity, which has helped to build a healthy government/ labour atmosphere in the nation.
One recalls that early in the Administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo , the workers understanding and appreciation of lean Financial standing of the nation, and the President's burning desire to revive the decaying infrastructure and bring back sanity into the system that have been dead in corruption and other societal vices, made the workers tighten their belt and gladly accepted in principle the minimum wage for all workers.
But in a manner characteristic of a statement and master strategist, President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday, 2nd April, 2005 promised incentives designed to further improve the welfare of workers in the state.
They include the approval given by President Obasanjo for the payment of the harmonized pensions and the five hundred naira difference in the minimum wage to federal workers, with effect from (MAY).
With the renewed partnership between government and labour in the federal level strengthened by the President's latest largesse, it is only natural, that Nigerian workers should continue to give their unalloyed support and loyalty to the administration.
