Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Dear All,

It is with sincere regret that we inform you of the postponement of the ATM Forum in Umuahia Nigeria scheduled to take place at the Michael Okpara Conference Centre, Nigeria from April 25-26, 2008.

We got a Check from the major sponsor which is the Abia State Government.

Till today, the check have not cleared and the programme could not proceed as planned. The board of DGAi meet on wednesday and unanimously agreed to postpone the programme to a new date. but could not reach concensus.

The GYSD event still holds in selected Schools in Abia State but our funds couldnot carry the whole programme.

We regret the inconvinences this postponement might cause you and ask that you stay alert for a new date which would be announced shortly!

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

Yours sincerely,

Henry Ekwuruke
Programme Coordinator.

In the Camp of Parliamentarians
About this event: 52nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference

As the only Youth attending to the 52nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference was accredited as an Observer to the programme. I was opportuned to be in the midst of great MPs from the whole Commonwealth countries during the opening ceremony and have been meeting them one on one.

Till date, I have got more than 50 Complimentary Cards of MPs and given out mine too to them.

Who are you? is the first question they ask me when we meet. I will answer, Henry Ekwuruke, President of Nnado Foundation Inc.

Are you a Parliamentarian?
Not really but I like the job and would not mind do it in the nearest future.

That is great so what do your organization do?

We are an NGO dedicated to rural development and youth development activities through training and empowerment programmes for young people and we work towards the achievement of the MDGs.

Sir, wht role are the Parliamentarians playing in the Achievement of the MDGs in Africa?

MDG! what is MDGs?

Sir, it means the Millennium Development Goals.

Oh! the Development Goals, we are trying our best to make laws that will promote democracy and good governance and people oriented developments.

That is great but what knowledge do you have about the MDGs and the promises?

I am not really enlightened on this programme but I believe what we do in the House is part of it.

I gave him the MDG campaign kit and exchanged my card with him and asked him to read more and work hard to make the goals a reality.

We exchanged pleasantries.

I asked a question, and the result was education!

This is the first time in the midst of MPs and sharing with them, I learnt a lot,

They are ordinary, simple and happy with their jobs. They like representing people and one told me that she is her because she heard that Nigeria has changed and that she believed!

Parliamentarians urged to deepen public participation in democratic process
About this event: 52nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference

President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria today commended the Nigerian Parliament for its regular engagement of the public in its legislative functions and urged Commonwealth Parliamentarians not to relent in the efforts to deepen public participation in the democratic process.

The President who stated this in his welcome address while declaring open the 52nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference on September 6 in Abuja, noted that the Conference is unique in many respects, that the nation hosted the conference in November with 104 delegates from fourteen independent nations in attendance and this year, 600 delegates from fifty-two nations are in attendance.

He recalled that Nigeria as at 1962 was practicing the Westminster Parliamentary System of government with only three regions but today the country operates a Presidential System of government with thirty-six states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

He noted that considerable trials and challenges have shaped Nigeria’s relationship with the Commonwealth and comity of nations, but since 1999, the country have remained consistent in her resolve to reclaim and rebuild her fortunes through far-reaching reforms and sustainable development.

He disclosed that within two years the nation was repositioned from the status of a pariah state to that of a responsible member of the global community in addition to a considerable reduction of her debt burden with the recent payment made to the Paris Club and expressed appreciation for the efforts of leaders of Commonwealth countries that made significant contributions to the nation’s debt relief endeavour.

He assured that appropriate measures have been initiated to ensure consistent prudence in resource management noting that since 1999, the nation’s democratic practice, discourses and democratic institutions have grown from strength to strength and have visibly put behind, those debilitating forces and factors that mediated the blossoming of democratic values and culture.

“All Nigerians have voted for democracy, stability, security, and prosperity. The tripartite relationship among the three arms of government, the Executive, the Legislature and the Judiciary has improved over the years. And today, we do not only enrich each other but we also exchange experiences and collectively work for a stronger, more secure, united, harmonious and prosperous Nigeria.” He said.

He said the theme of the conference, “Enhancing Standards of Democratic Governance and Public Perceptions of Parliament in the Commonwealth.” is most appropriate within the context of Commonwealth countries like Nigeria with a history of military intervention adding that the public perception of the role of the parliament as a vital stakeholder in ensuring good governance is limited.

According to him, moving from dictatorship to democracy requires the reconstitution of the structures and institutions of state, the rebuilding of confidence in leadership and governance, the construction of new mindsets, and the realignment of socio-political and economic interests and forces in new positive directions.

Dear Participants and Intenting participants and Guest,

The proposed Conference-Action Awareness Campaign 2004 has been prosponed. It was due to some lugistics that are under our control. Most regrettably, we have found that even though we

inconveniences, more so since this is coming very
late. As soon as the tide is in, we will contact you
and let you know the new date. Also bear in mind that
the venue may be changed. Let me assure you that we
are working tirelessly to ensure the we carry make up a new
date for the programme.Let's make sure that we do not relent and make proper use of our dreams and aspirations.

The city
About this event: 1st Annual All-Nigerian Youth Conference (ANY Conference) 2004

When I left my home

I left with so much trepidation

So much fear!

Fear for my life

Fear for the unknown

Fear of where to lay my head

Where to eat

When to talk in a this land

When to speak

When not to speak

When to go out and;

when to return.

I left my home with my head ringing

Fron thousands of

"Dos and don'ts"

But here I am with few months

More

smiling,laughing,eating out

Making friends,gisting with

My neighbours

Having fun and good time

Living a wonderful life

Here in the expensive city

The city I was told to fear

The City they call

A land of Unfriendly people

But city full of hope

the sit of our Rising

With promises of better Nigeria

Promises od better tommorow

Promises of fearless environment and;

promises of a corruption free society

good education for all and;

A poverty free society.

Nigeria is the place.
