In the Camp of Parliamentarians
About this event: 52nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference

As the only Youth attending to the 52nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference was accredited as an Observer to the programme. I was opportuned to be in the midst of great MPs from the whole Commonwealth countries during the opening ceremony and have been meeting them one on one.

Till date, I have got more than 50 Complimentary Cards of MPs and given out mine too to them.

Who are you? is the first question they ask me when we meet. I will answer, Henry Ekwuruke, President of Nnado Foundation Inc.

Are you a Parliamentarian?
Not really but I like the job and would not mind do it in the nearest future.

That is great so what do your organization do?

We are an NGO dedicated to rural development and youth development activities through training and empowerment programmes for young people and we work towards the achievement of the MDGs.

Sir, wht role are the Parliamentarians playing in the Achievement of the MDGs in Africa?

MDG! what is MDGs?

Sir, it means the Millennium Development Goals.

Oh! the Development Goals, we are trying our best to make laws that will promote democracy and good governance and people oriented developments.

That is great but what knowledge do you have about the MDGs and the promises?

I am not really enlightened on this programme but I believe what we do in the House is part of it.

I gave him the MDG campaign kit and exchanged my card with him and asked him to read more and work hard to make the goals a reality.

We exchanged pleasantries.

I asked a question, and the result was education!

This is the first time in the midst of MPs and sharing with them, I learnt a lot,

They are ordinary, simple and happy with their jobs. They like representing people and one told me that she is her because she heard that Nigeria has changed and that she believed!
